CHILD-CENTERED NATURE-BASED EDUCATION

Our nature-based curriculum at NRCCS-Early Childhood Center uses a thematic, place-based approach. Students immediate environment is the catalyst for learning. Using themes to tie together all areas of learning, math, literacy, art, music, movement, and social/emotional skills, thematic learning allows young children to make connections and build on what they already know.
Place-based learning goes beyond the classroom and playground and out into our community. Preschoolers are able to visit nearby State Parks and learn from the rangers! Regular walks around campus, the field, The Lower Glen, the Fire Station, and the Clark Store, happen often to explore the surrounding Clark community. Also, trips to Steamboat to visit popular things such as parks, the library, and the ski area promote the sense of community that we are a part of, being part of Clark and Routt County as a larger community.
While centralizing our unique experiential nature-based learning, NRCCS-ECC also maintains the Best Practices standards outlined by First Impressions of Routt County in accordance with the Colorado Department of Education standards for early childhood education. We conduct regular program and staff assessments to ensure quality education and care.

School Year (August-May)
During the school year, September through May, we offer a toddler and a preschool/PreK program.
The toddler program is for children 24 months to 36 months with a focus on developing appropriate social-emotional and play skills, independence and autonomy, and physical and language development.
Our preschool and pre-kindergarten program is for children 3 years to 5 years old and continues the goals from the toddler room while preparing students with their basic "ABC's and 1-2-3's" for kindergarten.
Both the Toddler and Preschool/PreK programs have waitlists. If you are interested in a program, please email [email protected].

Summer programs
During the summer, June through July (T/W/TH), we offer a summer camp program. This program varies each summer based on the needs of the community. These needs are evaluated every spring (typically in March) and are often for toddlers, preschool/PreK, and lower elementary school students. We spend nearly all of our day outside, playing, hiking, riding bikes, in the sprinkler and mud, catching bugs, and loving the beauty of North Routt!
