About our Facilities
The North Routt Preschool was built in its current location in Clark in 2006 for the North Routt Community and is adjacent to the North Routt Charter School K-8. In 2018 the North Routt Preschool and the North Routt Community Charter School boards decided to merge the preschool with NRCCS. After plenty of discussion, work, and a pandemic, NRCCS was granted management privileges over the preschool in October 2020. On January 1, 2021, the preschool legally became part of the new NRCCS PreK-8 program. NRCCS and the ECC are excited to have aligned programs and resources, shared facilities, and a united mission and moto.
NRCCS-ECC has indoor and outdoor learning space (see the pictures below). With nature the center of our curriculum, we strive to spend as much time outdoors learning from our natural environment. When we can't be outside, we bring the outdoors in as much as we can: materials, plants, nature inspired stories, art, and more.
Our outdoor learning and play environments provide our students with space to explore, play and discover in all seasons. In the spirit of Routt County, most of our students are skilled bikers and skiers at three years of age! Our outdoor space for toddlers includes a sand and water area, music, art, climbing, a paved loop to practice early biking and mobility, and naturalized areas for creative play. Our preschoolers' outdoor play space includes a sand and water area, track for biking and skiing, natural rock arch for climbing and crawling, "loose part" materials, art, and naturalized areas for creative play. Our students also have access to a greenhouse where they learn to cultivate and harvest plants, including carrots, lettuce, spinach, radishes, strawberries and tomatoes, just to name a few!
Thanks to a large grant from the Buell Foundation, our large preschool classroom has undergone a HUGE, MAGNIFICENT transformation! We have one preschool "Great Room" as the primary preschool learning space. The remodel included the removal of walls, new flooring, paint, lockers, furniture and thematic teaching materials. The Buell Foundation and ECHO (Early Childhood Health Outdoors) are also providing us with funds and designs to create a natural landscaped field trip space adjacent to the playgrounds. This new enclosed space will include native grass, shrubs, trees and flowers, sensory grass maze, library, balancing log path, and other fun areas still to be built! We have also made recent improvements to our toddler classroom, including new paint, furniture, cabinetry, and thematic teaching materials.
Enjoy the photos of our indoor and outdoor classrooms below, and when we reopen to visitors, you are invited to see our preschool for yourself with a scheduled visit! Email [email protected] to schedule a visit.
