When it comes to worms the kiddos at the preschool dive in with both hands! Since interest has been on birds and this week what they eat it make sense that since we talked about seeds yesterday that we would talk about worms today! Jimmy Nimock a Preschool parent came to the school this morning to show us his red worm compost, he also brought a bag of fruits and veggies and a juicer. Jack and the preschoolers took turns dropping the fruits and veggies into the juicer while Jimmy squished them down. After everything was juiced we added the pureed remains to the soil and mixed it in, next came the sawdust to keep out any unwanted bugs once Jimmy reassembled the worm tower everyone helped water the worms. Ms Johannah has a red worm garden at her house and once upon a time we had a worm garden at school she will be bringing in some of her worms so we can restart the worm compost and start cultivating soil that can be added to our gardens. We all learned a lot today and I am excited to watch as the older kiddos help take care of the worms.
