Hello all, I am sorry I have not posted anything this week technical difficulties!! However I do have a lot of fun pictures to share. After visiting the Boulder Journey School this last week I realized I needed to start thinking small about projects and curriculum for our youngsters. At the B.J.S. their environment was very simply laid out, their class room materials were somewhat limited and rotated in and out depending on the children's interest, and art was a focal point of each room. I feel like children are often handed materials that they do not now much about or have not had a chance to fully explore. For this reason I have chosen to simplified my curriculum for our toddlers. This week we have been talking about paper simply starting off with plain paper and exploring different ways to make markings / art on them. Monday we drew on paper with chalk, Cooper noticed how smooth it was to draw with and how easy it was to mix the colors on the paper with his hands. Tuesday we colored on paper with crayons they were not very interested in the crayons so for fun I added some tissue paper to see how they would manipulate it. Jayla made a bed for her baby out of tissue paper, then Jayla and Charlotte made headbands with the tissue paper. Everyone enjoyed how the paper looked on our light table!! Today (Wednesday) I taped a large piece of paper to one of our tables and let them go crazy with markers, I observed lots of circles being drawn, zigzags and dots. Tomorrow I hope to do some painting with them. Here are some fun filled pictures from the last few days. Enjoy Today we played dress up for a little while, cooper wanted to wear the pretty pink shoes they were not as easy to walk in as he thought, Charlotte shared the firefighter hat with me, and Jayla decided to wear the blue princess dress. Here are two pictures I was able to take during our play time.
Good morning Monday everyone. Today we stared our day off with some finger painting on our letter of the week, V, the goal was to try and paint inside the letters however they were having too much fun making little finger prints all over the paper instead. Shortly after that we headed outside and sat on the fence poles! the snow is getting very deep in our back yard and the kids are enjoying every bit of it!!! Check out the pictures! Good Friday and Happy Valentines Day to everyone, today we went for a ride in the stroller to let Mr Buttons out for a bit and give him fresh water and food, after we watched him jump around the preschool playground then jump back into his cage. The kids thought it was great to see him hopping around!!
What another fun day of snow pay!! We joined our preschoolers on the sledding hill and they really enjoyed sliding down the big hill I had to laugh about how long it takes us to climb the hill and how fast it takes to slide down. This made a couple of them frustrated so we helped them up. Here are a few pictures of the fun i really liker the one of a few preschoolers sitting and laying on their snow couches. I wanted to share a few pictures from our outside time today, we had a wonderful time playing with the preschoolers on the sledding hill. Happy Wednesday to all, what a fun day we have had, this morning we sang Valentines songs and clapped to the beat, after snack we joined the preschoolers and Miss Michelle in making Valentines Cupcakes. I always enjoy doing baking projects with the kids because there is a scientific process in baking, hands on learning about measuring (mathematics), mixing and string (hand/eye coordination), and last but not least patients! After placing the cupcake mix into the oven we made different colors of frosting to decorate the cupcakes with this afternoon. While the children were helping to stir the colors into the frosting, it was amazing how much frosting "accidentally" got on their fingers. :) It was a great way to kick off our Wednesday Valentine's Day party!! Happy Tuesday everyone, Valentines fun is all around, we will be having two small Valentines parties on Wednesday and Thursday, if your child is interested in giving a valentine to their friends we have a list of names available that way no one will be left out. Today the preschoolers were rocking out to some music with Miss Kathy Charlotte and Cooper decided to dance along. Here is a cute video of Charlotte, Cooper was wanting to watch my camera record then dance. Welcome to a new week here at the North Rout Preschool Toddler room! This morning was filled with meows, Jayla and Violet decided to pretend they were kitty cats, they had a lot of fun crawling all over the classroom, Cooper joined in at one point as well. Jayla was playing with a baby doll prior to becoming cats so she asked me to put it on her back so she should crawl around easier. After 10-15 min they both started playing with a few balls and began to pick them up with their mouth. At first I thought they were pretending to be dogs however violet started to push hers around with her nose continuing to say meow. I love their imaginations!!
