Hello and welcome back this week we have a lot of new things happening!! Today we visited the library where we saw a early bird! Literally I came in to find a baby duckling that joined us early, throughout the day we had two more arrive!
Today in the toddler room we talked bit about the process a seed goes through to become a plant. We took a look at our seeds that we planted last tuesday and Oh My... they have grown so much!! We also had some visitors today, the Kindergardeners from the charter school came over to show us their toys that they made to celebrate everything they learned this year about toys. We went in teams to different stations and listened to them explain what materials and tools they used to make their toy. When it comes to worms the kiddos at the preschool dive in with both hands! Since interest has been on birds and this week what they eat it make sense that since we talked about seeds yesterday that we would talk about worms today! Jimmy Nimock a Preschool parent came to the school this morning to show us his red worm compost, he also brought a bag of fruits and veggies and a juicer. Jack and the preschoolers took turns dropping the fruits and veggies into the juicer while Jimmy squished them down. After everything was juiced we added the pureed remains to the soil and mixed it in, next came the sawdust to keep out any unwanted bugs once Jimmy reassembled the worm tower everyone helped water the worms. Ms Johannah has a red worm garden at her house and once upon a time we had a worm garden at school she will be bringing in some of her worms so we can restart the worm compost and start cultivating soil that can be added to our gardens. We all learned a lot today and I am excited to watch as the older kiddos help take care of the worms.
- Ms Christa The Preschoolers are currently talking about worms and other things that live in the ground and in the toddler room we are talking about what birds eat. During our quiet / reading time this morning I asked the toddlers what birds like to eat we all agreed that they like to eat small fish, bugs, worms, and seeds and that they do not like to eat carpet, meat (but both of the girls said that they like meat!), grass, or dirt. With their help we decided that when we put seeds in dirt that it will create a plant and from that plant we will get a lot of vegetables for us to eat. I explained that we were going to start the seeds inside so the birds wouldn't eat our seeds they were glad that the seeds would be safe! When we joined the preschoolers everyone helped to plant some of the crops that will need the extra time inside to grow.
