Today the children explored what is inside pumpkins. We opened up a few different sizes and shapes of pumpkins and scooped out all the seeds and pulp. The children discussed how the seed could grow new pumpkins and that they could be toasted/roasted to eat. We are going to use our seed for eating.. With a little cinnamon :). I also wanted to include a couple fun candid shots from the day and two pieces of exciting classroom news; we are working on setting up a classroom fish tank, and our Christmas cactus is blooming!! Thanks so much to everyone who made it to our pot luck yesterday! We have such an awesome group of families.

The children are very excited to host the parents this evening for our pot luck. They spent the morning chatting about what you would think of all the fabulous decorations they have been making, and working on the final touches. We all cannot wait for the families to arrive :) By Miss Melissa
Today the children painted their feet white and printed them. Later we cut them out and drew faces on them to make them look like "ghosts". After snack we hung them up in the classroom. BEWARE! It is pretty spooky in here! By: Miss Christa Welcome to Halloween Week! this morning we played with orange and purple rope lights to create a spider web then everyone became untangled in it. We were able to spend some outside time even though it was cold and snowy! By Miss Melissa
This morning we set up the squash, gourds, and tiny pumpkins that we got at the pumpkin patch in a beautiful basket. We discussed the colors we would need to make a painting of these lovely fall finds. Then pallets and brushes were prepared for all. The children carefully observed, painted, and talked about what they saw. By Miss Melissa
Today for our pumpkin cooking project we "whipped" up some creamy pumpkin spice dip. Everyone tried out the hand mixer! The children love cooking and are so helpful. We discussed today that ingredients are what you need to have for making a recipe, and instructions are what tell you how the recipe goes together. While sifting the sugar we happened to create a sugar replica of Hahn's Peak, as Cole cleverly pointed out. After lunch we all sampled the dip with delicious, crispy fall apples. What a treat! What a great day to be outside! The weather was perfect and the children very cooperative. The kids had a blast picking out their pumpkins, exploring the patch and using the wagons. We had a fabulous picnic and played at the park. A perfect fall outing. By Miss Melissa
Today we had our first visit if the year from Miss Kathy! We visited the charter school and met the fifth and sixth graders that the children will be buddying with for PE this year. Everyone had a great time climbing, playing and getting to know each other. We hope to see Miss Kathy and the big kids again in a few weeks. By Miss Melissa
This morning the preschoolers sang and studied about how pumpkins grow. Then they colored, cut and pasted to create books about the life cycle of a pumpkin. Everyone worked very hard to make today a great Monday. By Miss Melissa
The preschoolers were lucky to get in on the charter school tour of a fire truck and ambulance. The fire fighters also dressed in uniform to show the children that they are still nice people inside the big clothing they wear to keep them safe. After the the busyness of our tour we returned to the playground, where the children have been digging large holes over the past couple days that they have been enjoying "hiding" in. |
