This week is all about fall for us here at NRP! Yesterday, we went on a hike to collect leaves and look at the changing colors. We brought the leaves back for our light table and we plan to have a few wind-tunnel-leaf-blowing parties on the playground this week!
Today we made fall playdough. The class loved mixing the spices into all of the colors. We used: curry, cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, oregano and cocoa! It was pretty cool. We are continuing to work in our journals, so please feel free to have your child go through it with you when you are here to drop off or pick up! They are pretty cool. I have shared some photos below that also include our NRCCS bike/P.E. day with Miss Kathy! Enjoy the week and the wonderful weather!

Happy Fall!!! I hope everyone is ready. Just another quick reminder: Sunday night there is a full moon and a total eclipse. :] FUN!
This week has been amazing. We have so much fun and I am always reminded how lucky we are to have such a wonderful school and community. So far we have: made play-dough with our charter school mentor, played with play-dough, practiced some yoga, played and learned A LOT about colors and the letter C (caterpillars, cats, colors, catching and crawling) with Miss Kathy in P.E. We have been reading some fall and "almost winter" books and talking about the changing weather! It is my hope to venture out on a few nature walks later this week. See our fun photos below! It was a busy one! Despite the rain, we still got outside quite a bit. We also got to do a lot of play inside. Miss Kathy came yesterday and today and we worked mostly inside with balls, throwing and aiming, galloping, hopping and we really enjoyed playing with our new NRCCS peer/helpers! We celebrated a birthday and got to light our first birthday lantern of the school year! We did some science experiments with fizzy dough (flour, baking soda, oil and droppers of vinegar!)
This morning, everyone practiced letters and shapes with a fun shaving cream experiment on the table. We are working a lot on personal space and how to act with our bodies around others. It is important to practice these expectations daily, so we have been doing some puppet shows to act out the right ways to act. The class has really gotten into it. Check out the photos below! Well, if there is one thing its that we have been VERY creative this week! I am sure some of you have noticed the extra-paint covered children running into your arms in the afternoons. Never fear, dirt (and paint, too right?) is a measure of fun!
Along with Miss Kathy's P.E. debut this week, we worked on a few big art projects and kept practicing writing letters and drawing shapes. Also, the bear cave is complete! Check it out when you come in the school..it is very colorful! We spent a few mornings listening to animal sounds and trying to replicate them as well as dancing to some animal movements. The kids loved the bear, coyote and pig noises the best. Today, we got out the shaving cream and spread it on the table to practice shapes and letters, which was AWESOME. We will be doing more of that for sure. Check out the photos below to see all the fun we have been having! My goodness this week has been filled with fun and its only the second day! So far, we have created some beautiful and very colorful salt crystals which the class immediately started sorting, counting and examining on the light table! We started work on our bear cave and it is in the classroom for now, although we plan to build on it in the next few weeks!
The most exciting time of the week so far has been Miss Kathy's first P.E. class. We talked about animals, read some stories, sang, danced and then went outside to play some fun nature games. We played squirrel tag, hop "scratch" (hopping on bean bags), toss the frog (into the bucket) and more! it was so fun. She will be coming Wednesdays and Thursdays for the next few months. We plan to join the charter school peers on Thursdays after they have a chance to do some of their own planning. Check out the fun photos below! It was a great first week! We made our birthday lanterns, got to meet all of our new classmates, worked on writing some of the letters in our names and practiced some big-body out door play! I had them working on skipping and somersaults (which were never ending after we started!) out on the playground on Thursday. The lanterns are really neat and we hung them all today, so be sue to look for your child's lantern on the tree next week!
We are thrilled with our class and are excited for the adventures to come. Hi!
We have had such a WONDERFUL first week! The kiddos have been enjoying the classroom rearrangement and are quickly becoming proficient at our daily routine! We spent the first part of the week talking about our names, writing our names and working on the letters in them. Today we started making our birthday lanterns to hang on the class tree. Each child will have a lantern with his or her name and birthday on it. On the day of the birthday, the lantern will be lit up an the child will have a chance to decorate it and put it back on the tree! We are excited about this fun and interactive way to celebrate. We have also been doing a lot of art projects, working in the garden/greenhouse and reading. Check out the photos below of our first few days! |
