Today the children were full of energy and excitement as we discussed leaves changing color, the science behind it, and the dustings of snow now visible on our mountain peaks. The children learned that leaves turn color when the tree gets cold and they stop making chlorophyll ( which is the pigment that makes them green) We went on a leaf hunt and will be putting our finds into the leaf press this afternoon. Peter also enjoyed decorating his "eagle house".

The children came back to school this week excied to see each other and be in the classroom. Some of the children decorated their "eagle houses" and; we traced, cut, colored and used play dough. We also started harvesting some if the veggies in our garden. We hope to do some cooking with our harvest later this week. I hope everyone had an easy transition into the week. By Miss Melissa This morning the toddler class joined us and we made Blueberry "puffins" (half pancake, half muffin). All the children enjoyed measuring, stirring and holding the bowl for their friends. What awesome team players we had! Then we shared a sample of the project after lunch. There is no better way to enjoy a job well done!! Yummmm. Today we had Eric from Steamboat Lake State park visit our school. He brought pelts and skulls of many local animal and the children got to touch and explore them. Eric talked to us about what each animal ate, how the teeth were different and other interesting facts. We studied beaver, skunk, fox, coyote, muskrat, raccoon, and black bear. The children were captivated by the specimens and really enjoyed listening to Eric. We plan to work on making a thank you card this afternoon and tomorrow. What fun!!

Greetings friends and family! The fall leaves are so beautiful out here this time of year. The children and I were discussing this morning all the different colors that the aspen are turning. We made some groves of dot painting aspen trees and plan to try to get out for a walk to collect leaves tomorrow if the weather allows. We also spent some extra time working inside this morning because it was soooo rainy. Some children practiced counting and Daniel read the class a story that he has been practicing. I hope everyone had a quick and easy Monday to start the week off right. By Miss Melissa
We enjoyed another quiet Friday in the preschool classroom. The children spent some time helping each other with puzzles and building together. We experimented with water color techniques; using brushes and dipping our paper to dye it. I wish you all an excellent weekend. Let's hope for nice weather for being outside!! By Miss Melissa

Today we especially enjoyed our free choice time. There was lots of road work going on in the block center, complete with a "traffic jam" in North Routt. Many great outfits were tried in the dress up area and books were read. For our project the children created some lacing cards out of old calendar art and ribbon. During the process of lacing the group decided that we should make these creations into kites. We added more ribbon and took them out for a test flight on the playground. It is such a pleasure to watch how creative this group can be!! By Miss Melissa
Hello NRP families. This morning the children transformed sticks, twigs and a little clay into some amazing creations! By the end of the project they had decided as a group that they were making "eagle houses" and they thought we should decorate them when they are dry. Look for an update of our progress. I hope you are all having an excellent week.. We are half way through :) By Miss Melissa
Greetings! This morning all the children, Kerri Ann and myself took a hike in search of beautiful rocks to use for today's art project. The weather was perfect and the trees are really starting to turn. It was really nice to be outside. When we retuned there was rock sorting fun and glue for all! We found some excellent rocks. These little budding geologists have keen eyes for detail! |
