Good afternoon preschool families. Today the children experimented with clay. They used different objects from around the school to see what kinds of patterns they made in the clay, as well as the usual clay tools. Shells, Popsicle sticks, straws, a star stamp, spruce cone, bubble wands and of course fingers :) We also took a hike before lunch to visit "Grandma Willow". This 100+ year old tree was a real treat to meet. The veteran preschoolers enjoyed telling me all about her!! Christa took some pics if you would like to peek at the toddler daily blog. This week at pick up/drop off please check the conference schedule to set up a time for us to meet. I look forward to getting to know all of you better.

We enjoyed a quiet Friday in the classroom. We did some painting, chalk art and spent some extra time outside to take advantage of this lovely weather before the chill of fall. It was sad to see Miss Michelle say goodbye, but we all talked about how we plan send her notes to practice writing!! We will miss you tons Michelle!! I hope everyone has an excellent weekend. Hello NRP friends and family. I want to start this blog off today by saying how much I will miss everyone at the preschool and throughout the community. Everyone has been so welcoming and generous to me and I greatly appreciate it! I will never forget these wonderful kids and educators at NRP and I am thankful for my time here. Sappy stuff aside, lets get down to business :) I asked the parents to bring in a family photo so we could share them today and talk about our families. We discussed favorite vacations we have all taken as a family and our favorite parts about our family members! I love the conversations shared between the preschoolers and I. We learned that each family is unique, but they all have one thing in common; they love each other very much! As I finish writing my last blog at NRP, I am counting my blessings given to me by these children and this place. I will dearly miss you all, but look forward to reading future posts! Thank you! Good afternoon everybody! Today at preschool, I made a little mistake. I forgot to ask the NRP parents to bring in a family photo. My plan was to have every child bring in a photo and then we could discuss how each family is different and use that picture to create our own family portraits. Since I forgot, the preschoolers used their imagination to make the portraits. As you can see from the pictures below, everyone did a great job drawing you!! This was a wonderful exercise to get the kids more familiar with shapes and how to draw them together. Even though it wasn't the exact way I planned it, we still had a great time doing it! If you could please remember to bring in a family picture tomorrow, that would be very helpful! Thanks parents and have a great evening! By Miss Michelle
Happy rainy Tuesday everyone! We don't let rain spoil our fun here at NRP! Today the preschoolers and I made some classroom decorations. We used Popsicle sticks, yarn, beads and rocks to make our own chandeliers. It was great fun! When I noticed we were running low on beads, I needed to get creative. I thought pulling the shiny red rocks out from yesterday would be a good solution. The kiddos and I decided that if we glue two rocks together with the yarn in the middle, it would make an excellent addition to our chandeliers. We were correct; everyone did a great job! They make wonderful decorations to our classroom. By Miss Michelle
Good afternoon friends and family!! I hope everyone enjoyed this beautiful weekend! Today at school, I had a plan to play a game that would help the students learn more about their friends. However, the kiddos and I ended up making things with shiny red rocks. That is what's so great about the Reggio Amelia philosophy; we think we'll be learning about one thing, but the kids tell me they are interested in something else. Every day is an adventure!! I observed the preschoolers were using the rocks to make faces. I asked if this was because last week we made self portraits and they responded "yes those were fun!" Today is also my birthday and everyone treated me like a queen! Complete with a crown and chocolate cake!!! Yumm! Have a wonderful night!! By Miss Melissa
This morning we talked about some of the ways to describe each other and took another look at everyone's beautiful self portraits. Miss Michelle helped us play a game of "Guess Who?".... She gave three clues to describe each student and we had to figure out who it was. These keen observers were awesome at this game!! Everybody knew right away who Miss Michelle was talking about. No tricking these kids! By Miss Michelle
Good afternoon NRP family and friends!!! Today at school we have a special new person, Miss Melissa, our new preschool teacher! She is wonderful and we all love her already! Melissa and I took the preschoolers to explore for natural materials we could use to make another self portrait! The kids really enjoyed making portraits yesterday, I wanted to see how their images would change when I gave them different materials. Also, it was so nice out, we wanted to go for a hike. Once we gathered lots of rocks, sticks, grass and flowers, we ventured back to school to construct our portraits. As you can see from my pictures, everyone did a great job using these things to make their self images! It was such a fun day at preschool! See everyone tomorrow :) By Miss Michelle Hello everyone!! I hope you enjoyed last week and the long weekend! Today is our first official day at preschool. We have a new face in our class, Mr. Cole Kissel! Everyone had a wonderful time showing him around and our daily routine. He makes an excellent addition to our class and we are so happy to have him! To start the school year off, I wanted each child to draw a self portrait. We used a mirror to see ourselves and really inspect what we looked like. After we finished, we compared each others. The kids found out that we have a lot of kids with brown or dark hair. The portraits are hung in our classroom so be sure to stop and see them when picking your child up tonight! They really love to show off their art work :) Have a wonderful evening!! |
