Peter's mom, Julie brought in a new classrom pet today. This Western Tiger Salamander is the Colorado State Amphibian! The kids loved to touch his wet skin and learn about how he lives underground and eat worms. The next day, we had to dig several worms out of the garden for him. We have not yet chosen a name for our pet but here are a few sugesstions: Sam, Sally & Mr. KiKi. this is going ot be a tough decision. Throughout the winter, we will be growing worms in a worm compost bin so that we can feed our salamander. Julie has set us up with the indoor composting bin and the entire class will be involved in caring for our pet and his food: the worms. What a wonderful class project! Thank You Julie! By Miss Kerri Ann Our dramatic play and block areas are the two most popular spaces in our preschool. Miss Christa and I wondered how we could bring the two together. Today we took pictures of our preschoolers and attached them to blocks in the block area. We were wondering how the children would use them and what creativity images of themselves would inspire. The preschoolers were very interested in the project. They posed for the pictures. Some of them did tricks like jumping or twirling and asked me to capture their moves. Once I printed the pictures, they helped me to attach them to the blocks. After that, they constructed a swimming pool and took turns diving their block people off of the diving board. We will continue this activity throughout the next few weeks to see where it goes. Check out this slideshow of our activity: By Miss Kerri Ann Delia brought racoon and tiger figures into school today to share with her friends. The figures inspired a conversation about where these animals live. Peter insisted that Tigers live in zoos. Daniel, Jada and Delia decided to paint pictures of the animals and where they live. Here's part of the conversation they had while painting: Dan: I'm making a circus for the lion" Delia: "I'm making the tiger's paws pretty." Jada: "I'm making a trailer." Delia: "For the animals?" Jada: "Yeah." Dan: This is a tractor for the lions" Later on today, Peter's mom will be bringing by a new pet for our classroom. I'll post some pictures tomorrow! By: Miss Christa Today we had some special visitors to the charter school and preschool community, Fire Chief Mike and Assistant Fire Chief Scott from the North Routt Fire Department. Before we went to explore the fire truck and ambulance we talked as a group about what kind of things are on fire trucks and what to look for. Mr. Scott dressed up in his fire suit to show us how the firefighters may look when they are trying to put out a fire, this was great for the kids to see who to look for if they should need to be saved, and not to be afraid when they see them. The part of the fire truck that caught their attention the most was the instrument panel that has all of the levers, knobs, and "clocks" (pressure gauges) on it. it was a neat experience for them. By: Miss Christa This morning we took a change to play with musical instruments and had a dance party. Check out the videos. Here is a clip from our dance party. Jada and Daniel created this houseboat out of magnet blocks.
By Miss Kerri Ann We welcomed a new student today! The preschoolers did a great job showing Joseph around and taking turns playing with him this morning. We played a name game by tossing a ball around. The kids thought it was really funny when the ball hit Miss Kerri Ann in the head! Here are a few images from our day: By Miss Kerri Ann Once again, sorry for the late post. This was yesterday's video. Our preschoolers learn so much from their experiences. In the clip below, you can listen to Delia sharing with Jada the things we collected during our nature exploration at Miss Kathy's house. You can also hear Daniel trying to show Grayson the sap on his fingers that he picked up from one of the pine cones. We have introduced some books about trees and seasons from our library and will continue to talk about the items we collected. I can't wait to see where this experience takes our us! By: Miss Christa Tuesday Fun Day traveled to Miss Kathy's house for PE, seems like a lot has changed in two weeks. This time we received a tour of her house, we explored the southwestern area of her property we ran and ran on her zigzag mowed paths, we brainstormed where the exposed roots in the sand by the water came from, we played in the fox den bushes, and even got a tractor ride around her community neighborhood. |
